Hugh has been practicing law since 1976 and has been a partner in the firm since 1987. Hugh spent the early years of his practice in the courtroom, serving as Deputy District Attorney for Cullman County for eleven years. He now has a general practice, with emphasis on insurance defense work and civil litigation. He is a member of the Alabama and Cullman County Bar Associations as well as the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association. Hugh received his B.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of Alabama.
Hugh is active in the community and at First Baptist Church in Cullman. He served as Municipal Judge for the city of Cullman from 1994 through 2004, and has served as attorney for the Town of Dodge City since its incorporation in 1993. Hugh has served on the Board of Directors for the East Cullman Water System since March 2003. Hugh lives in the Fairview community on the family farm where he grew up and where he now raises cattle and horses. He has three children and five grandchildren, and at church he keeps the nursery for newborns and crawlers. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Alabama Farm Credit where he serves as the Chairman of the Compensation Committee.
